In October 2005, the Directive on Traditional Herbal Medicinal Products (Directive 2004/24/EC) came into force. A transitional period until 2011 has been allowed for any traditional over-the-counter remedies already legally on the market prior to April 2004.
However, by 2011, any products not registered may have to be removed from sale. Manufacturers, importers and wholesalers are responsible for meeting these legal requirements.
